The String trio was written in 1992. Its formal organization is in three-part slow-fast-slow arrangement, sharply contrasted in view of both the tempi and the nature of the successive sections, preceded by an agitated introduction and followed by a brief epilogue. The formal compactness which certifi es this arrangement, and also some of the peculiarities of the harmonic and thematic language, and the intensity with which the music is built up throughout the discursive development, place this composition on a par with coetaneous compositions such as the Second string quartet, Impromptu, and Full d’àlbum.
