The source that served as the basis for this edition is the manuscript M921/6 stored in the National Library of Catalonia, the same one used for the editions prepared by Frederick Marvin (1957) and Samuel Rubio (1972). In fact, as far as we know, this is the only known source for the Fandango. The manuscript, which is clearly the work of two copyists, has the following heading: ôFandango / de Soler.ö The attribution of the work to Antonio Soler (1729-1783), supported with varying degrees of conviction, has been questioned on more than one occasion. We have chosen to suspend our judgement in this respect.
