This piece was written as a commission for the Atempo festival in Paris at the request of its artistic director Diógenes Rivas, in order to be included in a programme focusing on the evolution of the impromptu genre, from Schubert to the present day. Impromptu captures the spirit of the genre. It is characterised by formal fluidity and the direct expression of diverse and contrasting emotional registers, which often evoke its particular character of free improvisation.
