The Suite Compostelana from 1962 is an atypical work, when considered within the context of the rest of the composer’s repertoire. On the other hand, it is perfectly well explained by personal sympathies. Mompou composed this suite for the guitarist Andrés Segovia, at the beginning of the sixties, Some years later, Antoni Ros Marbà also went to Compostela, specifically, to take charge of the Real Filharmonía de Galícia. And, similarly, it was because of his affection for the city and for his deceased friend that Ros undertook an orchestral adaptation of that guitar suite. The result was this Compostela, a work completed in 2003, almost parallel to the guitar suite.
