In composing this piece, Guinovart tried to follow the model of the virtuoso fantasies of the nineteenth century with piano accompanimient, a typical genre that has today been neglected and relegated to examination programmes but which at the time was very prevalent in concert halls. Guinovart always remained faithful to Granados’ piano language, which he was very well acquainted with as a result of having played and recorded his Goyescas. The clarinet part is written with advice from Joan Enric Lluna, who has also written an optional candenza for his solo instrument.
