Tango, as well as flamenco and jazz music, is a collective creation built by proletarian men and women who lived in Buenos Aires at the end of XIXth century. For Alicia Chust tango is the answer to this melting pot that included the musical traditions brought by immigrant people and grew up in orfeones and rondallas. She also reviews some people’s lives such as Manuel Jovés, a Catalan musician who took with him the sardana to Buenos Aires and wrote almost fifty tangos. This essay recreates the athmosphere of this sensitive as much as poor world.
