He studied music in Paris with René Leibowitz and afterwards with Cristòfor Taltabull, a disciple of Max Reger - two figures who enabled him to master those elements of contemporary music which most interested him. He was a promoter of contemporary music in Barcelona in the 60’s and has taught many younger generation Catalan composers, first at the Municipal Conservatory in Barcelona and from 1980 as Director of the Conservatory in Badalona. Josep Soler is also known for his essays, books and articles about music and composition.
