Montserrat Gascón Castillo

Born in Barcelona, Montserrat Gascón studied flute with Salvador Gratacós in her hometown and with Willy Freivogel in Stuttgart, Germany. She also participated in various courses led by renowned flutists such as Jean-Pierre Rampal, Alain Marion, Wilbert Hazelzet, and Marc Hantaï, among others. Her repertoire spans from Baroque and Classical music played on period instruments to contemporary pieces, including premieres of compositions by Joan Guinjoan, Salvador Brotons, Joan Albert Amargós, Josep Soler, Luis de Pablo, Consuelo Díez, and Tomás Marco, many of which were dedicated to her.

As a soloist and chamber musician, she has graced prestigious venues worldwide, including the Palau de la Música Catalana in Barcelona, the National Auditorium in Madrid, the United Nations Headquarters in New York, Caruth Auditorium in Dallas, L'Auditori de Barcelona, the Reina Sofia Art Center in Madrid, the Cairo Opera House in Egypt, the Great Theater of Havana in Cuba, Nostiz Palace in Prague, Helferei Hall in Zurich, Tchaikovsky Hall in Moscow, National Theater Ruben Darío in Managua, San José Theater in Costa Rica, National Theater of Panama, and more. Montserrat has been featured on radio and television broadcasts across Europe, America, and the Middle East, and has released six albums. She holds a degree from the Conservatory of Music of Barcelona, a Master's in Early Music Performance from UAB/ESMUC, and a PhD in Musicology from the Autonomous University of Barcelona, where she was awarded the Extraordinary Doctorate Award for her thesis "A Flute in Crystal: The Glass Flutes of Claude Laurent 1774-1849."

Noteworthy are the performances Montserrat has delivered in recent years featuring a glass and silver flute with five keys crafted by Claude Laurent in Paris in 1823.

Since 2003, she has served as a Chamber Music Professor at the Higher School of Music of Catalonia.
