Carlos Fontcuberta

He was born in 1977 in Valencia. He studied composition with Ramón Ramos in Valencia and with Gérard Pesson and J. Manuel López López in Paris.

He is the winner of the XXXVII Queen Sofía Music Composition Prize (2020) with the work Trencadís, and First Prize in the XXII Young Composers Foundation Autor-CNDM Prize (2011).

His works have been performed by the Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France, Orchestre National de Lorraine, Valencia Orchestra, Jove Orquestra de la Generalitat Valenciana, Cor de la Generalitat Valenciana, València Instrumental Group, Espai Sonor Ensemble, d’Arts Ensemble, B3 Brower Trio, Smash Ensemble, Plural Ensemble, Cepromusic Ensemble, Neopercussion, l’Itinéraire Ensemble, Orchestrutopica Ensemble, etc.; in auditoriums such as the Palau de les Arts Reina Sofía, Valencia Music Palace, Sagunto Roman Theatre, Auditorium 400 of the Reina Sofía Art Centre, Barcelona Auditorium, Canal Theatres, Escorial Theatre Auditorium, BBVA Foundation in Bilbao, Zaragoza Auditorium, Grande Salle of the Arsenal de Metz.

He has been a resident composer of the Jove Orquestra de la Generalitat Valenciana, for which he has written on commission the opera Noches Blancas premiered at the Palau de les Arts in concert version, and Liebestod (Barcarola for orchestra). Both works are included in a monographic record recorded by the orchestra under the direction of Manuel Galduf. To this record is added the CD also monograph recently published with the art, literature and music magazine Sibila, which dedicated the music section in one of its numbers.

Among other commissions received are: a concert for piano and orchestra commissioned by the Palau de la Música de Valencia and recently premiered by the Orquesta de Valencia and Carlos Apellániz under the direction of Jordi Francés; the commission from Radio France of a work recorded by the Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France for the radio program Création mondiale de France Musique; the creation of a work for the Chorus of the Generalitat Valenciana in commemoration of its 25th anniversary; the composition of one of the mandatory pieces for the XV International Piano Competition José Iturbi, etc. He has also received commissions from the València Instrumental Group, Mostra Sonora de Sueca, Neopercussion, Godella's "Residencias" Chamber Music Festival and Catarroja's Percute Festival.
