The Diotima Quartet interprets "Quadrupole" by Gabriel Erkoreka
The prestigious French quartet, made up of Yun-Peng Zhao, Léo Marillier, Franck Chevalier and Pierre Morlet, offered a concert yesterday, Thursday 13 October, as part of the season of the Sociedad Filarmónica de Bilbao. The program included the Quartet no. 3 by Béla Bartók, the Quartet in F major by Maurice Ravel and the Quartet no. 2 ("Quadrupole") by Gabriel Erkoreka, published by Tritó Edicions.
The title of this second quartet by the Basque composer refers to gravitational waves, which can deform space-time during their propagation. Erkoreka transfers this idea to music, with the four stringed instruments acting as imaginary pulses and generating magnetic fields in extreme or infinitely close registers.
