Tritó publishes an unpublished opening by Salvador Reixac
The publishing house Tritó publishes an Overture in D major by the violinist and composer Salvador Reixac (1725-1780). The edition was carried out by Josep Maria Vilar, musicologist and renowned specialist in 18th century orchestral music in Catalonia.
Salvador Reixac was born in Barcelona and probably trained at the Palau de la Comtessa, one of the most prestigious musical centers. In 1753 he was hired as a violinist by the Duke of Osuna, in Madrid, and two years later he was one of the four first violinists in the chapel of the Colegio Imperial. In 1767 he accepted a position as violinist in the Royal Chapel. His currently known work is rather meager, and it is strictly instrumental: two trios for violins and bass, a sonata for violin and the overture that we are now publishing, the manuscript of which is kept in the archives of the Community of Preveres of the church of Santa Maria de Vilafranca del Penedès. The work consists of three movements according to the fast-slow-fast structure that it shares with the rest of the orchestral works of its Catalan contemporaries and is instrumented for strings in three parts (without violas), two oboes and two horns.
